Soundtrack to Love
A Digital Soundtrack by Luay Eljamal

For this project, we were asked to think about what a life, an experience, a place, or an idea might sound like. We utilized prerecorded loops, effects and original compositions in order to create a 'conceptual' soundtrack. Our soundtrack had to translate a non-sonic phenomenon into sound. I decided that I would focus my soundtrack on the theme of "love". In support of this theme, I underlined the composition with a heartbeat that adjusted in tempo with each movement, referencing the human heart as a symbol of love. The soundtrack serves as somewhat of a story, following the typical love-life narrative that humans go through from meeting someone in public and falling in love all the way through to the miracle of life. Working on this project was interesting, particularly seeing as I was working with a narrative, that would ordinarily have been presented in through visual medium. It encouraged me to think about what musical styles would reflect the emotions behind each movement, and how to marry them to the real sounds that would be present in each moment as well. I considered uploading my final work to YouTube, but I felt that the medium through which the piece was presented was just as important as the piece itself, and decided that uploading the video to YouTube—a visual website—would give my audience's a different impact than if they were asked to just listen to it on a purely sonic website, such as SoundCloud.
