This project aimed to have students work collaboratively to create a series of short digital films. Through the process, we learned basic film strategies, including pre-production, production and editing techniques. We were asked to work in pairs to develop a short film that would eventually be put together with all the films created in the class to create an Exquisite corpse. An exquisite corpse is a creative game invented by the Surrealists by which a collection of words or imaged is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule of by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed. For this project we were each given a beginning and an ending shot that matched the beginning or ending shot of another group. As you can see in the video or in our storyboard below, our beginning shot was to be a "close up of an animal and/or insect life" and our ending shot was to be of a "first person point of view walking down an empty corridor or hallway". Once our project was submitted, our professor compiled them all to create one Exquisite-Film. We treated our section of the film as a "Word Association" collage video, where one word or idea would link one shot to the next.
